Prince

I think this is a young male King Parrot taking on his adult colour. Females and juveniles have green head feathers.

Pipe-pipe, pipe-pipe
His high-pitched voice stays true
He's softly cracking seed.

Reflection:
Proverbs 8:15-16 (New International Version)
By me kings reign
and rulers make laws that are just;
by me princes govern,
and all nobles who rule on earth.

  2. They are a gorgeous bird, and I would agree that this is a young male. The green head on the female and immatures is very much like the "veins" here. Females have no red on the tops of their head.

    They are surprisingly big for a parrot. Bigger than rainbows, easterns and crimsons.

  5. Elk, I count it as a great blessing to have them.

    Julie, yes they are big in comparison the the parrots you name but nowhere near as big as the black cockatoos, they are huge.

    Letty, yes they are like veins. I've never noticed this type of detail before. Just happened to be the one I caught in my lens. I got several green headed ones too.

    Lea, amen.
