Lament

Thinking of the weeping and willows by the river in today's Psalm I remembered how a week ago I saw a bough laden with almost ripe plums bending over the fence.   Today I checked and found the birds have had a feast and left none for me.  My own small lament.

Reflection:
Psalm 137:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?"

His love endures forever

It has been Summer hot lately so we have been spending a lot of time in the cool shade of the verandah looking at the tranquil movement of fish in the pond accompanied by the cheerful bubbling of water and bop-bopping of frogs.

Only one fish (the red and white one) survived the rigours of the winter so we added four new fish to keep it company.

Reflection:
Psalm 136:3-9 New International Version (NIV)
"Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever."

Long table

Sorry I didn't post last week.  We were busy with the final touches for hosting lunch for 100 or so adults and children from our city church who were in the mountains to attend the annual CMS summer school.

Our preparations included the lovely new long table my husband made for me to go on our freshly refurbished verandah.

Reflection:
Psalm 135:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
"Praise the Lord.
Praise the name of the Lord;
praise him, you servants of the Lord,
you who minister in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant."
